Common questions about using Classerna for course registration and management.

General Questions

Is WooCommerce required?

Yes, WooCommerce must be installed and activated for Classerna to function. WooCommerce handles all payment processing, order management, and customer accounts. The plugin will display an error message if WooCommerce is not detected.

Can I use Classerna with any WordPress theme?

Classerna is designed to work with any properly coded WordPress theme. The plugin includes a wrapper with a light background for course pages to ensure readability on dark themes. You can customize the appearance using CSS custom properties.

Does Classerna support multiple languages?

Yes, Classerna is translation-ready. All text strings use WordPress internationalization functions. You can translate the plugin using tools like Loco Translate or WPML. A POT file is included in the /languages directory.

Can I have multiple instructors for a course?

Currently, Classerna doesn't have a built-in multi-instructor feature. However, you can mention multiple instructors in the course content or use the Collaborator role to give instructors limited admin access to view course information.

Courses & Sessions

How many courses can I create?

There is no limit on the number of courses you can create. Performance depends on your hosting environment, but Classerna is optimized for WordPress standard practices.

Can I offer the same course multiple times with different dates?

Yes! You can either:

Can sessions have different prices?

Use tiered pricing with WooCommerce variable products to offer different pricing for different session packages (e.g., full course vs. single session access).

How do I cancel a session without deleting it?

Edit the session and add "(Cancelled)" to the title or update the content to indicate the cancellation. You can also change the session date to a past date. For proper cancellation workflows, consider contacting enrolled students directly.

Registration & Payments

What payment gateways are supported?

Classerna works with any WooCommerce-compatible payment gateway including Stripe, PayPal, Square, bank transfers, and many more. Configure payment methods in WooCommerce > Settings > Payments.

Can students pay with installments?

Payment plans require a third-party WooCommerce extension like "WooCommerce Subscriptions" or "WooCommerce Deposits." Configure the payment plan in the WooCommerce product settings.

How do refunds work?

Process refunds through WooCommerce > Orders. Find the order, click "Refund," and enter the amount. Note that refunding doesn't automatically remove course access - you may need to manually handle student enrollment status.

Can I limit registration to certain users?

Use WooCommerce's built-in features or extensions for user restrictions. You can also use the registration cutoff date to close registration after a certain date.

Do students need to create an account?

This depends on your WooCommerce settings. You can allow guest checkout (WooCommerce > Settings > Accounts) but students will need an account to access the My Courses page and course materials.

Content & Materials

What file types can I upload as materials?

Any file type allowed by WordPress can be uploaded as a document material. Common types include PDF, DOC, DOCX, XLS, XLSX, PPT, PPTX, and images. For video materials, you can embed from YouTube, Vimeo, or use direct video URLs.

Can non-enrolled users preview materials?

By default, materials are only accessible to enrolled students. Non-enrolled visitors see a count of available materials as an incentive to register. You can include preview content in the course description.

Is there a limit on the number of materials per session?

There's no hard limit, but we recommend keeping materials organized. Consider grouping related files or using external links for large resource collections.

Can I protect materials from unauthorized access?

Materials are only displayed to enrolled students through the plugin interface. However, direct file URLs may still be accessible. For maximum security, consider using a WordPress file protection plugin or hosting sensitive materials on a protected platform.

Technical Questions

Does Classerna slow down my site?

Classerna is optimized for performance. It only loads its scripts and styles on relevant pages (course pages, My Courses, admin screens). Standard WordPress caching plugins work normally with Classerna.

Can I use Classerna on a multisite network?

Yes, Classerna can be activated on individual sites within a multisite network. Each site maintains its own courses, settings, and student data.

Does Classerna work with page builders?

Yes, you can use Classerna shortcodes within page builders like Elementor, Divi, Beaver Builder, etc. Single course pages use the theme's single post template, which most page builders can customize.

How do I back up my courses?

Use the built-in Export feature (Classerna > Settings > Import/Export) to export courses to JSON files. For complete backups, also back up your WordPress database and uploads folder through your hosting or a backup plugin.
